| A walk to discover the chalk escarpment close to the south coast. We start in the first capital of the country, Winchester, and finishes in the coastal town of Eastbourne. The walking is moderate on good paths firstly in Hampshire through rolling farmland soon opening out to the big skies of the downs, most of the paths are old droveways of around 6000 years old. The highlights along the way include Winchester Cathedral, Chanctonbury Ring, the Adur valley, Devil's Dyke, the long man of Wilmington and the cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head, throw in the picture postcard villages, far reaching views and bronze & iron age monuments all combining to make this the classic old England walk. | ||||||||||||
