The Three Castles path

This walking week follows in the footsteps of King John who travelled this route so often that he built a castle half way.

Starting at Windsor we travel in almost a straight line to finish at Winchester 60 miles away, the two main castles at the start and end are well known but King John’s castle at Odiham has a fascinating history. The walking is easy going with rolling countryside, parkland, forest, beside quiet streams and through picturesque villages using some of the old ways that King John would have used, along the way other places of interest include Eversley church where Charles Kingsley was the vicar and Greywell tunnel a official bat reserve.

For the week we will be staying in a local hotel near the route with twin bedded rooms and good facilities, breakfasts and packed lunches are included, evening meals are extra and we usually stop off after the walk at a local eaterie to reflect on the day. We will be taken to the start and returned to the hotel by minibus each day.  Pick up and return can be arranged from Windsor which has good travel links.

The walks each day will be averaged at 10 miles, giving us plenty of time to take in the history along the  way, we should also have ample time to take photo’s and enjoy this tranquil corner of old England from the time of the Magna Carta to today, a truly historic place.
