Outdoor Scene Adventures

Our journey along the line of Hadrian's Wall, one of the most popular national trails in the country, will begin at Heddon on the Wall and end when we reach Carlisle Castle some 60 miles away.

Along the way we will visit all of the well known Roman forts including Housesteads, Chesters, Vindolanda and Birdoswald,  there we can see how the Romans lived whilst in this outpost of the empire, there are also lesser known sites and ruins, all well worth a visit as we walk along the best of the wall.

For the walk we will be using a minibus to get to our start point each day and return us to our accommodation late afternoon, this includes pick up and return from Carlisle station, so no need to drive all week.

For the week we will be staying in either a local Hostel close to the wall or a local hotel with rooms for our exclusive use. The hostel has bunk accommodation  in a former Methodist chapel with good facilities including hot showers and a drying room, the hotel will be twin bedded rooms with limited single rooms, in both breakfast and a packed lunch each day is included, tea in bed by request.

For our evening meal you can eat at the hotel across the road or as previous years we can travel a short distance to Haltwhistle or several other very good eateries close to the Wall.

A reasonable level of fitness is required to complete the route following the line of Hadrians Wall, with some short steep ups and downs, however, 6 days allows plenty of time to walk at a leisurely pace and still enjoy the stunning scenery, the museums and of course the tea and cakes. Should you decide to take a break from walking there is the option of travelling to the sights by minibus and meeting the group at various points during the day.

The terrain and scenery are varied from open rugged highland to peaceful river valleys but the sense of history is always there as you follow in the footsteps of the Roman legions who endured the elements to build and garrison this far flung outpost of the Roman empire.
