| From St Bees Head to Robin Hoods Bay, the Irish Sea to the North Sea, the classic long distance trail taking in three National Parks. The first week is through the lake district with all the dramatic scenery and steep ground you need, leaving the coast to the first viewpoint at Dent, past Ennerdale Water to the isolated Black Sail Youth Hostel, climbing to Honister Pass with Great Gable, the Howitzer and the Lion and the Lamb for company, to Wordsworth's home at Grasmere and the high fells of Helvelyn, St Sunday Crag and the Roman High Street range to Kidsey Pike, the last high view point. Here the landscape changes to rolling limestone hills and dales with pretty villages, starting with the four miles of the man made Haweswater and Shap Abbey before the prehistoric sites of the Rayseat Long Barrow and Severals, a 100 acre British village. | ||||||||||||
